Lead Histology Technician – Pathology Laboratory
Ensuring Precision in Specimen Preparation & Laboratory Operations Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Pathology Laboratory Supervisor, the Lead Histology Technician is responsible for preparing laboratory specimens for microscopic evaluation by the pathologist. Utilizing microtome, special staining, histochemistry, and other techniques, this role ensures accuracy in diagnostic analysis.
Additionally, the Lead Histology Technician assumes a senior role in maintaining efficient operations within the histology section. In the absence of the Pathology Laboratory Supervisor, the technician steps into a leadership capacity to oversee histology processes and workflow. Job Requirements:
✔️ Associate's Degree (equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree) ✔️ Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) & HT ✔️ Experience: 3-4 years in a related field ✔️ Key Skills:
- Strong organizational skills to handle workflow efficiently
- Keen attention to detail & accuracy in specimen preparation
- Proven problem-solving & judgment skills
- Thorough knowledge of procedures & quality assurance documentation
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Specimen Preparation & Diagnostic Support
- Process laboratory specimens using microtome, staining, and histochemistry techniques
- Ensure accuracy and completeness in specimen handling for microscopic evaluation
- Maintain quality control and documentation according to lab standards
✅ Operational & Leadership Responsibilities
- Ensure efficient workflow within the histology section
- Step into a supervisory role in the absence of the Pathology Laboratory Supervisor
- Manage complex assignments, delegating tasks as necessary
✅ Quality Assurance & Problem-Solving
- Maintain thorough procedural knowledge and compliance with laboratory regulations
- Ensure the documentation of quality assurance measures and necessary reports
- Analyze and resolve procedural challenges effectively
Working Conditions:
📍 Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Rarely: Climbing, kneeling, lifting 50+ lbs
- Occasionally: Stooping, pulling, pushing, lifting <50 lbs, reaching, sitting
- Frequently: Walking, standing, use of hands, color vision, talking, hearing conversations and other sounds
- Consistently: Near visual acuity
