The 11ABCD Medical Cardiac Step-Down unit at Good Samaritan Hospital is an intermediate care area dedicated to patients with a variety of cardiac conditions. Our team focuses on caring for patients experiencing chest pain, those recovering from myocardial infarctions (MI), congestive heart failure (CHF), and cardiac arrhythmias. This unit provides an essential bridge for patients transitioning from critical care to a less intensive setting while still requiring specialized cardiac monitoring and support. In addition to cardiac care, the unit also provides high-intensity non-invasive ventilation and serves as a back-up stroke unit. The unit features 39 beds, and staffing is carefully tailored to meet the needs of our patients We welcome both experienced nurses and new graduates to our team. Job Overview: This position performs clerical duties as well as maintaining skills necessary to observe and interpret central cardiac monitors. This position requires the interpersonal skills to communicate with respect and compassion to customers: communications information through various telecommunication devices; and assists in coordinating patient flow.

Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under the direct supervision of an RN. Maintains competency of tasks in which the PCA has been trained. Completes assigned tasks within required timeframe. Seeks clarification from the nurse when in doubt about how to proceed. Maintains a safe environment. Reports problems in completing assignment/tasks in a timely manner to the appropriate person. Documents observations and tasks performed. Works in collaboration with all members of the health care team. Utilizes chain of command appropriately. Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities as required, and described in principal accountabilities. Recognizes, reports, and follows-up on issues with supply/equipment availability in a timely manner. Reports and follows through as per unit standard concerning equipment that is broken or malfunctioning. Assures equipment/supplies are readily available for use by next person.
