Job Overview
The Medication Access Specialist will function as part of the Population Health Pharmacy team and will directly support Primary Care team in achieving value-based quality measures, with a focus on medication adherence and identifying/resolving medication access issues. The Medication Access Specialist is responsible for evaluating and facilitating a patients access to medications, including but not limited to medication adherence, formulary reviews, gathering necessary clinical information from electronic medical record, and timely communication with patients, prescribers and physician office staff. Candidates should possess knowledge of third party reimbursement and medical terminology as well as seek out assistance from a pharmacist or physician as necessary. Success in this role will require strong communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills. This person should be able to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external customers, physician office staff, and all members of the organization.
Essential Functions
• Outreach to patients to assess and address barriers to medication adherence, with assistance from the pharmacist as needed
• Serve as a subject matter expert in prescription formulary review and resolution of medication access issues
• Review medical record to obtain necessary clinical and medication related information and seek timely clarification from pharmacist or physician as necessary
• Provides excellent customer service as evidenced by a willingness and ability to assist customers (both internal and external) with their questions/concerns, treating customers in a friendly and helpful manner, and maintaining a positive attitude
Job Requirements
High School Degree or GED
Pharmacy, Pharmacy Technician or Medical Assistant
No Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
1-2 years Clinical in Pharmacy, Pharmacy Technician or Medical Assistant
This position can accept Pharmacy Technician and Medical Assistant candidates as well.
