Infection Prevention Specialist

Enhancing Patient Safety & Workplace Health

We are seeking a skilled Infection Prevention Consultant to lead and support our organization’s infection control program, ensuring the safety of patients, visitors, and employees across all facilities. This role serves as an internal consultant for infection prevention efforts, regulatory compliance, and multidisciplinary collaboration while responding to emerging infectious disease challenges, environmental safety concerns, and procedural best practices.

We support organizational goals to push towards top decile performance to ensure our patients receive optimal care.

Work Schedule & Location:

  • This position requires on-site work during the onboarding period.  While the main location is at Good Samaritan Hospital, the team will provide cross-coverage across the system as needed.
  • A hybrid work approach is not available at this time but may be considered upon successful completion of onboarding, based on business needs and performance.  
  • Shift flexibility may be considered. This position requires on-call rotation after successful onboarding.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

✔ Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, or a related field. 

✔ Registered Nurse (RN) or Board-Certified Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist). 

Certification from the Board of Infection Control (CBIC) preferred, or ability to obtain within three years

✔ APIC membership required. 

✔ Strong background in medical-surgical care, clinical microbiology, or epidemiology. 

✔ 3-4 years of clinical healthcare experience with expertise in infection control protocols. 

✔ Proficiency in data analysis, interpretation, process improvement methodologies, education techniques, and healthcare regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain the infection prevention program across all sites.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including TJC, ACHC, CMS, CDC, OSHA, FGI, and additional relevant agencies (APIC, EPA, FDA, AAMI, AORN, etc.).
  • Utilize critical thinking and immediate decision-making in clinical and non-clinical situations, such as epidemiology, laboratory data, construction design, HVAC, and plumbing.
  • Conduct infection surveillance, risk assessments, and compliance evaluations, applying statistical analysis and epidemiological expertise.
  • Provide education and training to staff, patients, and visitors to promote infection prevention awareness.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary collaboration with clinical and non-clinical teams.
  • Maintain 24/7 on-call availability to respond to urgent infection control concerns and emergency management situations.

  • Frequently required: Bending, stooping, and continuous learning.
  • Occasionally required: Climbing, kneeling, lifting (11–50 lbs.), pulling, pushing, and exposure to environmental hazards.
  • On-call responsibility: 24/7 availability via phone or Voalte to support emergency situations.
