Certified Pharmacy Technician Infusion - Western Ridge

Job Overview:

A Hospital Pharmacy Technician III is a key healthcare professional in our pharmacy operations. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician assists in distributing medications to patients in inpatient and outpatient units, the emergency room, and the operating room. Responsibilities include selecting, counting, compounding, packing, labeling, and delivering medications. The technician also prepares sterile compounds, including chemotherapy and hazardous substances, and maintains the sterile environment in the IV Room. Proficiency in accessing and viewing the electronic health record and pharmacy automated systems is required. The technician will work in multiple areas of the pharmacy to maintain competency and broaden skills.

Work Hours: 

  • Full-time, Days, 80 hours bi-weekly

Sign-on Bonus: $5,000 for qualified external candidates (one-year work commitment)

Job Requirements:

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Active National Pharm Tech Certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association
  • Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Proficiency in compounding sterile products and maintaining a sterile environment
  • Up to 1 year of technical pharmacy experience as a Pharmacy Technician II is required to move into the Pharmacy Technician III position (internal)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the pharmacist in preparing, dispensing, and distributing compounded sterile products, including chemotherapy and hazardous medications, following current guidelines and policies (USP 797, USP 800, ASHP, NIOSH, and Board of Pharmacy regulations)
  • Perform hand hygiene, garbing, and cleaning/disinfecting the hoods and room according to policy, and keep accurate cleaning logs
  • Prioritize IV medication production and dispose of IV and chemotherapy/hazardous waste appropriately
  • Adhere to all safety requirements when handling, preparing, labeling, and disposing of chemotherapy and hazardous medications
  • Assist in non-sterile medication preparation by selecting, counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, filling, and delivering medications per department guidelines
  • Operate and maintain Automated Dispensing Machines, including loading/refilling/unloading, managing outdated inventory, and resolving discrepancies
  • Accurately fill stock orders, emergency carts, and boxes in a timely manner
  • Transport medications from the pharmacy to other areas (tubing, cart delivery, IV Run, STAT, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate controlled substances inventory (CII-CV) and review controlled substance records, reporting any unresolved discrepancies to a supervisor immediately
  • Optimize workflow by efficiently completing job duties and prioritizing workload, demonstrating good technical and procedural judgment
  • Use pharmacy technology appropriately, following department standards and workflows, and maintain pharmacy automation systems
  • Access patient information, process in-basket Rx messages, and print labels in the Electronic Health Record
  • Respond professionally to requests from pharmacists, nurses, physicians, patients, or other personnel via telephone, in writing, or in person
  • Assist in training new employees

Other Job-Related Information:

  • Must be a Pharmacy Technician II to be eligible to move into the Pharmacy Technician III position
  • Required to train in compounding sterile hazardous medications and be available to compound hazardous medications as needed
