Job Overview:
The CSS Educator has responsibilities for the sterile processing education for the CSS department. The CSS Educator Must collaborate with others to achieve strategic objectives and hospital-based goals. Assists in communication of division and unit vision and goals, develops a team of highly skilled staff, ensures cost effective and efficient use of resources for optimum outcomes, administers orientation and continuing education activities, and promotes excellence in clinical practice through interpretation of standards of care and provision of guidance and educational interventions. Practice is consistent with sterile processing guidelines, regulatory standards, and institutional policies and procedures. Remain current on AAMI, AORN and TJC standards and requirements.
Assist with the orientation and training of new employees. Participates in the Quality Improvement Process By providing input and completion of audits. Provides input on employee performance appraisals.

Job Requirements:
Associate's Degree or Diploma in Sterile Processing Certification within 12 months of hire
Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree
Sterile Processing Certification within 12 months of hire
Assess areas for professional and personal growth among the staff
Develops and implements educational updates
Evaluates patient care support systems within department and division
Ensures quality patient care support and staff competence
CBSPD, IASCHMM

Job Responsibilities:
Contributes to the development, maintenance, and change of the health care delivery system. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit, department, and institutional goals. Role models professional standards of nursing practice. Serves as an advocate for nurses and as a mentor to members of the health care team. Collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care for patients and family.
Participates in clinical quality improvement activities in the health care setting, promoting excellence in health care delivery to the consumer. Participates in the evaluation of patient outcomes through the review of quality improvement monitoring data and customer satisfaction surveys. Collaborates with management in the identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of process and clinical quality activities. Identifies, recommends, and facilitates implementation of clinical best practices. Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential records.

Provides support for the competency-based orientation and evaluation of CSS Staff. Collaborates in the development of unit specific orientation plans. Evaluates the outcomes of unit based orientation plans and recommends appropriate improvements. Supports the clinical competency assessment program facilitating the feedback, individual action planning, and documentation processes. Provides basic and advanced developmental support to unit preceptors. Facilitates the development of critical thinking skills in new CSS technicians through the planning and coordination of orientation activities and processes.
Pursues opportunities for professional growth. Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment, peer review, and customer feedback. Defines goals for professional growth. Provides peers with constructive feedback regarding their practice. Participates in review of current literature/research. Participates in a variety of educational activities in order to maintain and increase competence including continuing education, specialty certification, professional organization membership/leadership, formal education and participation in hospital-based or community service program.
