Job Overview
The Pharmacy Resident functions as a Clinical Pharmacist within a structured, one-year training program designed to develop advanced clinical skills and knowledge. Under the supervision of program preceptors during assigned learning experiences, the resident engages in continuous two-way feedback to foster professional growth, completing all evaluations through PharmAcademic. The residency program adheres to the standards set forth by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, under the direction of the Residency Program Director, who oversees program compliance and training requirements. Resident responsibilities are thoroughly documented in the residency manual and include completing a major research project and providing ongoing pharmaceutical care, including staffing the central pharmacy every other weekend throughout the residency year.
Eligibility Requirement: This position is exclusively for pharmacy residents who have successfully matched with our program through the National Matching Service (NMS). Only candidates officially matched to the program are eligible to apply.
Minimum Requirements
- Enrollment in an approved program in Pharmacy.
- Graduation or pending graduation from an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program or one pursuing accreditation.
- Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in Ohio.
- Licensure as a pharmacist in Ohio within 90 days of the residency start date.
- Experience in Clinical Pharmacy.
Job Responsibilities
- Direct Patient Care
- Provide assessment and treatment in critical care areas, participate in multidisciplinary patient care teams, and assist in pathway and protocol development.
2. Clinical Information & Education
- Deliver clinical information and education through one-on-one and group discussions across various disciplines.
3. Drug Distribution
- Perform order entry, clarify prescriptions, ensure accuracy in checking, supervise technicians, and ensure timely delivery of medications.
4. Documentation
- Document monitoring activities and interventions, including the clinical and economic impact of patient care.
5. Professional Development
- Demonstrate initiative by pursuing additional projects and identifying areas for improvement.
6. Communication
- Share relevant information with department members to enhance collaboration.
Other Job-Related Information
Essential functions include performing Clinical Pharmacist duties, solving medication use process issues, engaging in quality improvement activities, training pharmacy and medical personnel, supervising pharmacy technicians, and ensuring compliance with medication use policies and regulations. Residents are required to complete a major research project as part of the program requirements outlined in the residency manual.

- Activities such as concentrating, continuous learning, hearing conversations, and interpersonal communication occur consistently.
- Physical tasks like climbing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, and stooping are rarely required.
- Frequent activities include reading, sitting, standing, and walking.
