Good Samaritan Hospital seeks to hire a Patient Care Assistant and Unit Coordinator for our Observation Unit who will embrace our mission of improving the health status of the people we serve. The Observation Unit is a designated area within the hospital that allow our providers to monitor and evaluate the medical condition of patients who do not meet criteria for inpatient admission but are not well enough to go home without require further observation. During a patient’s observation stay, the medical team provides personalized care for each patient based on the progression of their clinical condition.  Provides services to a diverse population of patients with different medical conditions with comprehensive care, including intensive case management, and shortens the time a patient stays in the Emergency Department.  This allow patients to rest, heal away from the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Department and allows nurses gain confidence and competence across the healthcare spectrum.  As a patient’s condition and medical needs are frequently assessed and guided by test findings, their admission status may convert from “observation” to “inpatient.”


Job Summary:

This position aids and/or performs basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of the nurse. This position may perform non-direct patient care activities as assigned, requested, or directed. This position also

performs clerical duties as assigned. Must have the interpersonal skill to communicate with respect and compassion to customers. This position also communicates information through various telecommunication devices and assists in coordinating patient flow.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High School Degree or GED. Successful completion of OH Dept of Health Nurse Aide Training Program w/ a current STNA certificate required of all candidates. Successful completion of Acute Care Medical Surgical Patient Care Assistant Training Program upon hire is required
  • Certification/ Registration:  STNA registered in the State of OH (required upon hire).  BLS/CPR (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers).  Nursing students currently enrolled in an RN program are welcome to apply.
  • Experience:  Previous or current healthcare experience preferred but not required.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Multi-line phone skills, familiar with patient call systems and pagers. Previous experience with computer operation.
