Certified Pharmacy Technician - Bethesda North Hospital

The Hospital Pharmacy Technician I plays an integral role in pharmacy operations, ensuring the efficient distribution of medications across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and surgical units. Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the technician is responsible for selecting, compounding, labeling, and delivering medications while maintaining proficiency in pharmacy automated systems and electronic health records. Employees will rotate across various areas of the pharmacy to maintain competency and expand their skill set.

Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
  • Approved certifications: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association
  • Active registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with non-sterile medication preparation, including counting, compounding, packaging, scanning, labeling, and dispensing per department guidelines.
  • Operate Automated Dispensing Machines—load, refill, remove outdated medications, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage inventory control by rotating stock, removing expired medications, and ensuring proper storage.
  • Maintain controlled substances inventory (CII-CV), ensuring compliance with documentation and reporting discrepancies promptly.
  • Optimize workflow through efficiency, prioritization, and problem-solving, identifying and escalating critical issues as needed.
  • Ensure proper use of pharmacy technology, troubleshooting automation issues, and maintaining pharmacy equipment.
  • Process patient information, in-basket Rx messages, and medication labeling within the Electronic Health Record system.
  • Professionally respond to requests from pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and patients, ensuring timely follow-ups and resolution.
  • Participate in new employee training and development, assisting in the onboarding process.
