CLINICAL DIETITIAN SPECIALIST II-NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Responsible for the provision of medical nutrition therapy for preterm and high risk newborns in the NICU and assist with nutrition assessment of patients followed in High Risk Clinic as needed. This includes assessment of growth, protein, electrolyte and mineral status, tolerance of enteral feedings and appropriate fortification of human milk and formula feedings. Participates in patient education through both one on one and group education opportunities provided by the NICU. Provides education for residents, fellows, neonatal nurse practitioner students, and staff. Participates and leads in process improvements in the unit and QI work within the Perinatal Institute. Maintains competency in pediatric and nutrition support practices, adhering to hospital and other accrediting policy. Oversight of infant feeding practices as it pertains to safe handling and preparation. Collaborates with the medical team and nursing to improve health outcomes of populations served within the NICU. Interfaces with nursing on all levels, working with NICU Unit Educator and Nursing Leadership and provides informal instructions to individual nurses. Collaborates with team members within the Perinatal institute to encourage and support advancements in nutritional care and outcomes of newborns and premature infants. Responsible to development of and revision of nutrition care and formula room policy and procedural guidelines, training and ensuring competency of NICU dietitians, milk techs. Assist in the training of PCA's who are responsible for assisting in infant feeding preparation. Responsible for afterhours and weekend on call support for the medical team and unit.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree Science Pediatric Dietetics Other Certified specialist in Pediatrics or Certified Nutrition Support ClinicianDietitian Certified specialist in Pediatrics or Certified Nutrition Support Clinician; CDR Registration & Ohio Licensure
  • EXPERIENCE: 3-4 years Clinical Pediatric Dietetic 3-4 years Clinical Pediatric Dietetic
  • SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE: Neonatal Dietetics and Nutrition Support. Previous Pediatric experience.
